I agree with you. Teachers deserve all the time off that they get however in Canada teachers get paid a lot (in my opinion). Once you reach year 10 it’s over 100k

Wait do I understand correctly? In USA teachers don't get paid during vacation? That's how I understood the end of the video

am I a bit jelly of your free summer? yes. Do I understand that you have to try to teach children for the rest of the year which is one of the most horrible and hard thing? also yes 😅

Elise (Hozier's version) :
instead of small freedoms sprinkled throughout, teachers have rigid work schedules that cannot be changed in any big ways, with no leeway when it comes to non-work related stuff during work hours, but instead we get periods of no work at all. So it goes from much more structured and rigid than many many other workplaces, to proper vacation. But that vacation is also in the busiest seasons, making travel much more expensive. Plus it's a job that doesn't allow for overtime to get more pay, and most teachers bring their work home. They're never actually finished with work. (my credentials: I'm a student to become a teacher, and grew up with a teacher mom who I observed making and correcting tests on our dinner table my whole childhood)

These are really good points. A lot of people also have no idea how much preparation and extra work teachers do before school, during lunch breaks, after school, on weekends and throughout the holidays.

One of my friends left teaching and has an office job now and posted about how nice it was to take a long lunch break walking along the canal. They definitely work hard, but it’s much more relaxed and slower paced. I know the grass isn’t always greener.. but it seems refreshing

I love teaching but you are so right it is completely all consuming during the year. that intensity wouldn't be sustainable without our breaks at all

I used to do my homework at my old job on the clock, as a teacher I can’t even plan for my job on the clock 🙃

I feel lucky enough to live in a country where as a “permanently employed” teacher you do get paid during the summer holidays and we don’t need to work another job to get by. Not everyone gets it though, and there are some exceptions to the rule, but it is an option (for me later on, not yet as I’m fresh out of college but still) which I’m very grateful for. But everything else is 100% true, and not to forget we have to work after work to be able to work at work 🥲

I'm assuming you're American- as a UK teacher I 100% agree - BUT do you not get money over summer? We get our yearly wage spread so we are still paid monthly even in holidays!
