My husband and I talked about this timeline. Even if she was gone for an hour “to get coffee”, the freak out by her dad seems premature. Ten minutes to walk to the coffee station, five minutes to fix it, ten minutes to find a good spot to sit on the deck, twenty minutes watching the sunrise, maybe a ten minute bathroom stop, and a ten minute walk back to the room. Boom. That’s an hour gone without even realizing it because vacation time feels different.

Honestly they’re lucky that they even got a quick response. In the 90s, she definitely could’ve been drunk, passed out in a corner or was purposefully avoiding her family. I wouldn’t have even thought anything was wrong if my own relative was gone for less than an hour.

Also she was 23 and missing for an hour, why would they alert when it was one hour?

The amount of people saying I can’t believe the cruise director allowed the ship to dock and release passengers… what do these people think a cruise directors job is exactly… they’re confusing them with the captain and safety officer.

Yup! I feel that the documentary really left people angry and uninformed. A dangerous combination.

the policy back then was different too. when I worked security we actually had to threaten to disembark a family that wouldnt stop reporting all their adult members missing every day when they couldn't find them for breakfast or what not. they didnt care that we explained if they are reported missing for more than an hour we have to assume man overboard and report it as such

I work in maritime law and people have zero understanding of how cruise ships work. its like its own country. its on very specific timelines and the only person in charge, is the captain.

The cruise director wouldn’t have been my first, second, or even third choice as someone to report a missing person to. That’s so insanely far out of his scope. Idk what people expected from him

I think she jumped, left a note naming dad or her families reaction to her coming out as a reason, dad found it and panicked. She was drunk and emotional. Her family insists she was the star of the ship, all of the men wanted her- I think that’s just denial of her sexuality. They were trying to get her to “change her mind” by playing that game. It drove her over the edge. Traffickers don’t have you at your MOST VULNERABLE-at a night club, drunk and alone and let you go back to the safety of your family. They have you, at that point, right where they want you. RIP Amy, I hope your dad doesn’t carry something to his grave like we all know Jon Benet Ramseys family did.

Yeah she was an adult who’d been away from her parents for an hour. She could’ve been doing anything. It’s not like a toddler had vanished. It’s crazy to think they should’ve prevented the docking and disembarking for that.

Why did they assume the best thing to do was to lock down the ship and not let anyone off??? Was their first thought that we was being trafficked and smuggled off the ship. it makes no sense

I didn’t love the way they came across but realistically she was a grown adult observed in her cabin at 5:30 and only gone for a relatively short time. This was not a minor
