I am 39. I have used em dashes my entire life—even in texting. I also got a perfect score on my English SAT. I would be crying myself to sleep if I was in school again and being accused like this! Inexcusable for a teacher to make assumptions.

The issue with GPTzero and other AI detection software is that they don’t actually account for well-written academic papers. I’ve seen instances where it was 100% human written but software says AI.

When I was in school it is called a hyphen or small dash and then dash for a long dash. I have never even heard of the phase m dash and had to google this. So it sounds like a m dash is what we called a dash. I use the dash and the hyphen in punctuation all the time!

at this point just ask him to make you a question and answer the essay in front of him, written by hand. thats the only way he can know its all from your brain and not AI

There is also software approved by the college/University. It is usually mentioned in the syllabus. Check your syllabus because it is a contract between you and your professor
