I fucking love these two. I’m reading Opposable Thumbs right now, a book that takes you behind the scenes of how these guys became the two most iconic film critics to ever do it. And holy shit… I had no idea just how impactful they were, and how monumental their show was. Both started out as small critics in Chicago, for newspapers, and worked their asses off to get their own show that was watched by millions. Doing it since the 70s. They truly changed the way so many people thought about Cinema. You can feel their passion every time they discuss a film. And who cares if you agree or disagree with them. I better not get any of those Neanderthalic comments. “Ebert was a moron!” Grow up. That’s not what it’s about. It’s about their deep care for the medium. How serious they took it. Because they knew how powerful the medium was. And hearing them argue about a movie just makes me feel inspired to go write something. If only we had more people like them right now. I mean, they had a full blown show where they just talked about movies the entire time. No bullshit. Two people in a room delving into what makes movies good or bad. And the fact that they often disagreed, and didn’t even like each other that much, is what makes them so fucking good. I highly recommend the book. Especially if you’re a real Cinema lover. ⁉️I gotta ask, though. What do you think of Full Metal Jacket? #siskelandebert #rogerebert #filmcritic #filmcriticism #moviereview #cinema #cinephile #film #filmmaking #movies #hollywood #screenwriting #motivation #inspiration
