@epicgardening: Banana plants are basically the drama queens of the garden world. Those massive leaves and crazy growth spurts mean they're constantly chugging water and nutrients like they're training for a marathon. When they can't keep up, those gorgeous leaves turn crispy brown faster than you can say "banana split." Mulch is your secret weapon against banana plant meltdowns. Throw some organic mulch around the base and you're solving two problems at once. It keeps soil from drying out and feeds your plant as it breaks down. Think of it as a security blanket that also happens to be breakfast. Here's the magic: organic matter turns your soil into a super sponge. Instead of water running off like it's hitting pavement, that improved soil grabs every drop and feeds it back to your plant on demand. More water plus better soil equals greener leaves and way more fruit.
Here in Thailand bananas are almost live native plants and we just let them be and when it fruits just cut it off, no pruning and cutting and we just leave the dried lower leaves there

In Sri Lanka we leave the pups as this will be the next tree to fruit. Has once the main tree produces its fruit that’s it, it is cut down and the younger plant replaces it. Some take it further and create banana circles. So the cuttings are chopped and left as mulch and break down to be use by the tree.
