Rafayel is a grey, complex character. He scared me sometimes, but I think sometimes… Sometimes people perceived him way darker than what he actually is. No, Rafayel doesn't hate humans, and No, Rafayel does care about Lemurians. He often spends sleepless nights just to mourn for his people and finds it hard to let go/deal with passing [siren song anecdote, banquet ablaze]. He also learned how to be dependable support (at a young age) for his people and even went a step ahead, thinking and preparing about where they live and possible occupations so they can have money to eat [omnipotent perception, tanakhali quest]. K's death already shakes him, let alone if it's Thalia who's in danger. It is also mentioned in TOR, he said watching your people die is a pain more excruciating than the death itself. Aaaaand he doesn't have a super mental age or 800 years worth of wisdom; his mental age, at least pre-branch story, is linear with his current age, which is why Thalia always keeps an eye on him, and grateful Thomas and MC are there for him because he is too young and pushes himself too hard to the point he's almost swallowed completely by grief [his birthday card, Lyn card, siren song, banquet and dagger, and safety pin acc.]. The only reason he's fine with Lemurian extinction in GOT and AB is because it's an endless circle of killing others for their own benefits, but that doesn't mean he's completely unaffected by their passing, especially since they died in the most brutal way in the current TL. You can see his PTSD showing in Siren Song and implication in the When Light Falls card. In both the commission quest and his other cards, like Ocean at Night, Floral Promise, Omnipotent Perception, Private Trip, etc., tho more prominent in the unicorn quest, It showed that Raf is a character that cherished life and loved nature. He mourns for Lemurian, sympathizes with humans who experience losses, and appreciates the strong-willed one [Tanakhali, Ivory Nightfall]. His bitterness with humans doesn't come from pure hatred but from how humans don't appreciate life, both that given to them and the one they rob away from others [omnipotent perception, tanakhali].

i have to disagreee with him not valuing human life or life in general because he does ofc as a lemurian there are things he cant understand abt humans but he's actually very empathetic he's only ever ruthless to those who were cruel to his people (like that guy he killed w/ wine bc he killed his mentor and made his scales a display)

which makes me giggle when ppl say "oh Caleb the yandere oh Sylus the 'scary mafia' boss" like Rafyael and Xavier haven't been there THE WHOLE DAMN TIME. Wolves in sheep clothing that's what Raf and Xavier are and I freaking love them for it. Gods I love these fictional men so much 😩 the character depth is just ✨️immaculate✨️

There are several points on which I cannot agree. It is true that Rafayel is not just a silly fish. Although he is manipulative and knows how to read people, it is wrong to look at his character only from that perspective. Rafayel is dramatic,but he also incites MC to be more free. Yes, he also canonically 'eliminates' people, those who have harmed Lemurians. This are two sides of Rafayel that can coexist.

*Spoiler question* Im sure you mentioned this before, but if so I couldn't find the video/slide in the PowerPoint for it. Do you have any theories as to why MC sacrificing her heart during Tears of Romirro didn’t work long-term? It brought back Whalefall City from Romirro, but when we see Rafayel again as Abysswalker the seas have dried up and he's lost his power again. Any ideas why the sacrifice wasn't permanent? Perhaps because it wasn't a wedding ceremony?

I think you might want to check out the UNICORNS Operation/Tanakahli storyline branch for Rafayel. It truly shows how his love for MC has softened him in ways that make him a more empathetic and compassionate person. And it's a lovely character growth compared to Nightly Stroll when he told MC off for being too compassionate, because being compassionate makes her so lovable and that makes her "dangerous" in his eyes.
