I think Xana heard something from Kaylees attack and went to go see what was going on. Only to be chased until he caught her and then moved onto Ethan. Ethan could still be alive if he wasn’t so mad that Kaylee was in bed with Maddie.

I do think Maddie or Kaylee were likely hunted as his target (I’m leaning heavily towards Maddie) but I do genuinely think he’d have left after killing one or both of them without killing E and X if he hadn’t been interrupted/seen by X.
