Boil the water before putting it in your filter. If you want to do the chemical rout use iodine. Depending on you filter they may remove the iodine.

I have same filter so if I was you I would dump that and bleach to kill the lava. Use cheeese cloth over your rain water and the top part of the “tank” when adding the water. It suggests to change water every 3 days. Or boil before you put in filter? Hope something made sense?

Look into making moss wall filters and also standing water is never going to be drinkable. I saw a suggestion for solar panel. All you need is an air stone for a fish tank will create all the water movement you need so the water doesn’t stagnant.

Use Mosquito-Proof Taps or Spouts If you store drinking water in barrels or tanks, add a tap so you don’t have to open the top to use it — this keeps it sealed from mosquitoes. Or use cooper containers (real cooper not plated or corroded) or Add Safe Copper Objects

use a screen over the opening of your tanks, and just rinse those wigglers out of your filter✌️

you need a good sediment filter to keep detritous out (a couple layers of pantihose will do just fine), and keep it covered. those larva happened after the rain, they don't fall with the rain. also, rain water is immediately drinkable, you need a cleaner catchment system, like screened guttering.

1: always cover your water 2:you have to back flush your filters really good to open the pores in the filter 3: it sounds like it’s leaking around the rubber washer and not going through your filter 4: any water that sits in the upper tank for more than 24 hrs, dump it

Coarse strain/filter then purify by either boil, distill, or chemical means. Few filtration schemes purify water, I'm not familiar with the filter u are using.
