@ghost_jonsnow: This once #reactivedog suffers from Leash Frustration and did an amazing job here staying in a tight leash heel and walk past a huge group of other dogs. I believe this was a Golden Retriever club of #greenvillesc !!! Now I didn’t plan on walkning by this many dogs at once but I allowed my client to do so as I trusted the dog enough at this point to be able to handle this situation and more then that I trusted that my client had full control over his dog! This is exactly how you resolve and help stop leash frustration & reactivity, by going out in public around other dogs and making it happen! In other words this type of #DogTraining can’t be resolved just in a boarding facility or someone’s home … for #reactivedogtraining first always comes obidence training, to ensure the owners have full control over their dog and then we work on desensitizing and postive association training with whatever the dog is triggered by! Dog reactivity is most often due to a dog that is scared or anxious around other dogs and is afraid of them and reacts out of fear and a way to scare the other dogs away, while aggression is a dog trying to harm or kill another dog due to being raised improperly without any boundaries or other inhumane reasons. Now leash frustration is when a dog just wants to get to another dog and its looks aggressive but its just because they are frustrated by being stuck on the leash and not being able to approach other dogs when usually they can without having to wait for permission, in other words the dog has no impulse control. This behavior issue is usually caused by a dog that spends too much time at dog day cares and dog parks where they can go up to any other dog they want without any boundaries. I always tell my clients and all #dogowners to stay away from dog parks and even dog day cares. Find a group of people with other trained dogs you can walk and train with and hire a dog sitter to come to your home or be with their trained dogs. Now I posted videos before discussing and showing the tight leash heel that I teach and had a lot of “dog experts” 😏 (not just people that think they are) comment how that’s not the way to teach heels as it’s not fun and engaging for the dog. Well they are right on that however I have tons of videos posted on teaching and demonstrating focused heels and loose leash walking. When you are working with a reactive dog and potentially #aggressivedog it’s your job as a #dogtrainer to take all the necessary safety precautions and ensure your clients understand those as well. Anyone that’s worried about the whole “the dog is shut down, it don’t look pretty, that’s not engaging” well those people have never truly worked with a reactive or aggressive dog! Teach the dog to ignore their triggers first and then you can do the fancy focuses heels and loose leash walking in public.

I thought you weren’t supposed to correct a dog for reacting?
