@catieosaurus: time blindness is so goofy. I have spent my whole life judging myself for something that is inherently just ...part of how my brain functions, same as taste, same as how I perceive color #audhd #adhdinwomen #timeblindness #creatorsearchinsights
This feels a bit disingenuous or a quibble over semantics? Time blindness was coined by Russel Barkley as I understand it, and was coined to cover the whole gamut of time related symptoms. So yes our tendency to underestimate how long something will take, but also our tendency to forget to account for some tasks completely, our ability to get distracted and lose time, our failiure to correctly prioritise tasks and to stay on task so we take longer than we should. Most of us can estimate how long something is taking when we are paying attention, we just are frequently failing to pay attention. As to reproducing time - any sources for that? I’m very musical and have no problem with reproducing time but I’m very classically combined type ADHD

Is this why I only have rhythm when I'm not consciously focusing on having it?

I have the ✨glorious✨ contradiction where I am excellent at keeping time in the context of music, singing, and short intervals like that, but longer stretches? Not a clue. I can be convinced I sat down for half an hour and it was actually 3-4 hours, and only regain awareness from whatever I was doing when someone touches me

Time blindness may just be the most crippling part of my ADHD, even with meds and decades of coping skills, bc what do you mean my visit with the headache specialist was a whole month ago, not 2 weeks ago?????

Have you come across anything that talks about this sort of thing, but with rhythm in music? Because as a late diagnosed woman with ADHD with a degree and a half in music who grew up singing, rhythm was not a thing that I was able to feel accurately till I was in my mid 20s and even then I had to FIGHT for it … and I dunno, feels like it could be related

I have ADHD and I’m actually obsessed with time. I hate being late I work on a schedule of clients, so I am literally obsessed with time. I think it’s a coping mechanism I developed early on.

Once upon a time I was put on a medication that wasn’t quite right for me. But I could perceive time. Every… single… second… scraped through my brain like my teeth on concrete….. there was no “oh! Where did the time go? Tee hee hee!” I knew where time was. And I’m never going back. That day was the longest year of my LIFE!

What about the not "seeing time sequencially" but as "now vs not not"? Is that part of perception or a different issue altogether?

What’s so crazy to me is when I got less stressed this got so much worse for me. I used to be able to estimate time and how long a task would take to the minute…now

are you saying that my inability to keep time like a metronome has to do with my ADHD and the not-time blindness

I did a neuropsych exam last year and got 6th percentile for estimating time passage. Made a lot of sense 😅

Thankfully, we have devices that help us externally perceived time. So even if you internally have trouble, you can control that externally so it is never a good excuse.

My recent joke is that I don't perceive time or space. I cannot estimate time, I cannot tell how much time has passed, short or long-term. I have very little spatial awareness or sense of direction. I'm constantly knocking into things and need GPS to navigate anywhere farther than a couple of blocks. I think I'm just mentally floating in the void.

I didn't realize I had this bc I've always been tense about being on time. I ✅⏰every 5 minutes & 15 minutes early is "on time". That's not "time sight" or whatever neurodifficults call it. It's my response to their freaking me out my entire life about it.
