lol people ask me why I play a 5-string bass. for the simple fact that I don't have to either retune or swap for anything in drop D. Plus if you want to create more impact in a lower octave for the outro/bridge/breakdown with anything that's using any note from B to E you can make some nasty heavy sounds. It even allows much more complex inverted chords. I'll never go 4-strings, personally. I like the variety of options depending on the song.

I feel like this conflict is better held between 7 and 8 strings no? I dig the symmetry between a 6 and a 7 and I exclusively play 7 strings. But all is good! Something to learn from everything!
