Dude even an Amazon Alexa just won’t answer certain questions. I was trying to remember which presidents were unalived in office. She wouldn't answer and I think I am on a list

I fear the people who are posting things like that actually don’t fundamentally understand the definition/purpose for Consumer Protection. We actually don’t let goods be wildly dangerous “because people should just not use it dangerously” lmfao

The people defending this are proof that we need more education in the humanities. Every comp sci student should have to pass professional ethics

Yes! Scrutinize AI with your own specialized area of expertise and you'll actually see how it could be socially dangerous for incomplete information. It spits out info based on the framing you give it, not necessarily bias. It doesn't assume everyone needs a complete answer

I suspect the people saying this about AI are the same people who say they could NEVER end up in a cult. They overestimate their abilities and don’t understand incrementalism. Like, there are 1 million tiny steps between opening LLM AI and believing it’s your girlfriend, it’s not obvious and it works exactly because you’re NOT smart enough to notice.

Is this person familiar with what happened with Grok’s crashout? And that was not the fault of the prompts users gave even if they were trying to get it to go n*zi—it is entirely to do w the learning prompts engineers gave that version

I too work in AI, and you’re 100% right. There has to be guardrails put in cause some folks developing the tech don’t take the negative seriously. They’re trying to make money, not positively impact society. Thats where policy comes in.

I mean even if the information it gives DOES come from stuff that has been previously inputted that’s still not good…? I’m so confused about what their ultimate point there is

No one is saying that AI shouldn’t be regulated or have guardrails. I don’t fear the tech but I do fear AI companies and many that misuse it. This isn’t about for and against factions (because both have no clue) this is about having a nuanced discourse about all of it.

With live in the age of the dictatorship of the algorithms. AI, social media, dating, nearly every part of life is determined by algorithms that are not made in the best interest of human health, but private gain.

Literally the same way we regulate (or try to) the internet? Like content promoting eating disorders for example is theoretically banned from most sites bc of the harm it used to do

We put seatbelts in cars. And we require people to use them. Not just for their own safety, but for the good of all.

There are NO safeguards that cannot be broken. Not to mention the ability to launch models without safeguards.

I disagree entirely. ChatGPT is not a person, it can not think, all it can do is bullshit. Any society has people at the extremes with extreme views that need policy around sharing (eg. hate content). That varies widely jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but AI knows no political boundaries when being developed (big footnote omitted). Anything it outputs is simply a computer remixing the library of humanity on demand. I get what you want, and the goals are important to accomplish, but when you ask for things that are technically bullshit then the tech industry will give you bullshit that is bad for society. Then we have the high level split between consensual and non consensual AI, which is crucial to understand before trying to regulate.

I don't believe the commentor actually understands AI, because what they said was nonsense on the technical level, in addition to the points you made.

now youre venturing into censorship, no? there arent books in a library about cults, euthanasia, how to build a pew pew bumb etc. I am totally FOR safeguards BTW but that ship has pretty much sailed since we've passed the point of being able to turn it off.

I think it’s insane to make statements about a technology you obviously don’t know much about. I was trying to inform you and give you insider info while saying WE NEED REGULATION. You just wanna skip over that fact and call me names instead of getting educated.
