@we.lovejets: The Lockheed Constellation, affectionately nicknamed the "Connie," was one of the most iconic airliners of the piston-engine era. Developed in the early 1940s and first flown in 1943, it was designed with sleek, dolphin-like curves and a distinctive triple-tail and long fuselage, offering both speed and pressurized comfort. Originally commissioned with input from Howard Hughes for use by TWA, the Constellation served in both military and civilian roles—its military variant, the C-69, was used during WWII primarily for transport. After the war, the Constellation became the flagship for many airlines, including TWA and Pan Am, ushering in the golden age of air travel with transcontinental and transatlantic service. The later Super Constellation (L-1049 series) expanded on the design with a longer fuselage, increased passenger capacity, and wingtip fuel tanks for extended range. It remained in commercial use into the 1960s, and in military service even longer, including as an AWACS platform (EC-121). Its combination of elegance, innovation, and reliability left a lasting legacy in aviation history. #constellation #superconnie #lockheed #twa #aviation #avgeek #blowthisup #fyp #viral

Redesign for turboprops, fire up the production line again, and you’ll sell every bird you can produce.

I wouldn’t step a foot on an airplane if I was 30 in the 1950s. Flying was not as safe as it is today.

I was fortunate to fly on a TWA Connie from Frankfurt, Germany to New York City in Feb of 1961. I remember that flight to this day.

My Dad, while in the Air Force in 1957, flew in this to Hawaii en route to Japan. Three of the four engines flamed out and one prop got them 200 miles to Honolulu
