It’s a fair question. We’ve heard often enough from religious conservatives who saw God’s will in some misfortune for people or places out of favor with them. The Old Testament is full of stories of Israelites who saw God’s will in all sorts of disasters that befell them. If God is in the story for a penny, He’s in it for a pound.
