I had a client last week with a multi thousand dollar watch. It was on upside down and when I asked him about it, he said he didn’t know how to read it. He just wears it because it looks good.

I always hired high school students for summer jobs. They had to learn how to count change. I would spend days with some of them. We practiced until they were comfortable with it. I’ve had other local businesses call me and thank me for training them up. I’ve also had young people come in and had never carried cash. Always use their card. 🤷♀️

I had a girl at McDonald’s try to get my order on the app. I gave her my code, she couldn’t find it. Checked the address etc.. store didn’t show I placed the order. Girl gives me the coke for free. I tried to give her the 1.63$ because I didn’t want her till to be short. She said “The order didn’t go through it’s fine.” My child, the cameras will see you give me a free drink. I’m trying to help you. She insisted, I got a free drink lol..

At work on Friday, the cleaning fella had to read the analog clock versus the digital clock that is posted on the security TV because the security TV was down and he couldn’t read the clock. He asked me what time it was, and when I pointed to the clock on the wall he said, yeah I don’t know how to use those

I remember getting work in school with coins on the page and we had to circle the coins that made up the amount they were asking for. That was like first grade, 1964.

Their damn cash register tells them exactly how much change to give! 🙄 I was a cashier in 1971…our cash registers didn’t tells us that info PLUS we had to figure the tax amount in our head, the registers didn’t do that. And we had to count the change back to the customer as we handed it bill by bill and coin by coin.

A lot of it is that the parents are not teaching them anything and expecting the schools to teach them everything and these kids can’t get the phones out of their faces long enough to listen to anything.

i work in a pharmacy and i’ve been in retail for 15 years — the adults who were in high school (in my experience) during covid have been stunted with their speaking skills, math, common sense. sadly i see it every day when i train my staff.
