In addition to operating the BMPT-72 support vehicle, the Algerian military also operates the BMPT-62. These two appeared in a military parade commemorating the 60th anniversary of Algeria's independence on 5 July 2022. The BMPT-62 uses the T-62 tank platform which is equipped with a Berezhok gun turret. The BMPT-62 was developed by Algerian engineers from BCL (Base Centrale Logistique). The Algerian military is drawing on a stockpile of Soviet-era T-62 tanks (around 300) that are no longer in service. BCL's idea is to produce a vehicle similar to the Russian BMPT-72 which is also used by the Algerian army. This Algerian BMPT-62 modification is in collaboration with the Russian company KBP Tula which is the manufacturer of the Berezhok turret previously used on the BMP-2 IFV. In 2015, Algeria placed a second order with KBP Tula for 360 Berezhoks turrets to modernize BMP-1 and BMP-2. The new version of the Berezhok turret has been equipped with a much improved sensor suite, including receiving an automatic target tracker and a ballistic computer. The turret weighs 3,250 kg and is equipped with one 30mm Gryasev-Shipunov 2A42 automatic cannon and one coaxially mounted 7.62mm PKTM machine gun. The left and right sides are equipped with two pairs of Kornet-E anti-tank missiles (ATGM). The BMPT-62 is powered by a V-55-5 V-12 water-cooled diesel engine producing 580 hp combined with a manual transmission with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. BMPT-62 can travel at a maximum speed of 50 km/h, with a maximum cruising range of 450 km. It is not known exactly how many T-62 MBTs were converted into BMPT-62s by Algeria, but during the parade twelve BMPT-62s were seen in line. #military #army #algerianmilitary #armoredvehicle #infantryfightingvehicle #fyp #xyzbca
