@diabeticinthewoods: how old were you and how do you feel about it? thankful? angry? neutral? #t1d #typeonediabetic #typeonediabetes #type1diabetic #type1diabetes #diabetic #diabetes #dexcom #insulin #insulinpump #cgm #dexcomg7 #dexcom #tandem #twiist #dka #hypoglycemia #bloodsugar #a1c
i was diagnosed at the ripe age of 8 and it sent me into the most depressing filled days ever. I used to cry everday and refuse to take shots until my dad had to literally hold me down so I could take my insulin. (those saying! "oh thats abuse!!" No. im fompletely with my dad he did the right thing to. make sure I took my insulin.)

15, but I was mature for my age, so everyone just assumed I could handle it. Which led to no one really realizing that I was struggling. Sometimes I wish I was diagnosed when I was younger, maybe I would have gotten more help 😕

Diagnosed at age 3. I feel similarly thankful that I didn’t know a life before t1d, but I do feel like it made me grow up a lot faster than I would have without the disease.

I was diagnosed when I was 3 and I feel like I mourn the person I could have been without diabetes “holding me back” like what would I have been like with out this disease. Would I have been a better student, Athlete, musician? Things I will never get to know but at the same time I am extremely greatful that I didn’t have that for it to just be stripped away and lose all sense of self and identity that comes attached with those things. I enjoy my own company and I am glad to have had opportunities to connect with people who are dealing with the same issues I face everyday. The sense of community that comes with this chronic illness is something I would never change to be “normal”

My son was 3 yrs old and he’s now 7 yrs old. Currently we are at a point where he doesn’t want to have diabetes right now. It’s because he’s the only one in our family and school. So im planning at some point having him go to Camp Ho Mita Koda to be with other kids that are just like him.

I was 17 & it’s taken me years to actually do it correctly. Mental health plays a big role.

I was 2! I am grateful that I don’t remember life without diabetes. I think if I was diagnosed later in life, I would have taken it more seriously and taken better care of myself. I was burnt out in my teens on top of normal teen stuff and I think if I could have avoided that I’d have been much better off.

Went into DKA & was misdiagnosed as type 2 almost two years ago at age 33. Just found out a couple of days ago that I’m really type 1. Still processing that this is forever & beyond my control but grateful I knew a time where this didn’t consume my life

I was 4 and I'm 22 now, I feel both happy and sad, I wish I didn't have to worry about any of this when I was a kid, but at the same time I'm glad I didn't really know a life without it so I didn't miss the time that I didn't

9. I have very few core memories of my life without diabetes and I’m thankful for that. I have a friend that she was 2 so she has no memories without diabetes. And she says she likes it that way. Her brother got diagnosed in his late teens I think and she said it was brutal watching him go through that.

I was 25 when I was diagnosed with t1. I miss that life not having it. its contrbutef to my life going into a spiral. I wanted to learn how to skydive before, now many dropzones won't allow me. I miss not having to worry and having more freedom

Couple weeks before my 19th bday, about a month before covid started in 2020, called 911 because i thought i was having a heart attack but turns out i was just in DKA, heart rate was 190+ and blood sugar was in the 500s (maybe 30 mins after eating) i was 110lbs and got told i had T2 and sent home with metformin, about 12 hours later same thing happened but i went to a different hospital, was told I was T1 and put in the ICU and i sometimes still forget i have diabetes and miss my life before it so much ALL of the time

Nearly 21 I got diagnosed, very thankful I didn’t go through school as a diabetic and worrying about playing about, eating and a few years of drinking. Had I been the only diabetic in the family it would’ve been much harder, but still not easy.
