Atheist AND astronomer here. The origins of the universe are irrelevant to the original premise, as noted by the response. As for the universe coming from nothing, as an astronomer: um no. To clarify, it’s simply wrong to claim that we claim that to be the case. We simply don’t have any evidence-based consensus on the matter. In short: we don’t know. And we are comfortable not knowing. No need to invent or invoke a supernatural explanation. Just because we don’t know the answer, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a perfectly mundane physical explanation. Hope this helps.

Atheists don’t care if you believe in God. I do find people that believe in God do care that I don’t.

Not an astronomer but I have spent a fairly large portion of my life asking questions about the creation of the universe and about how it fits in the Christian belief system. So most atheists agree that the universe didn’t come from nothing because as you said matter cannot be created from nothing in fact by the law of conservation of mass matter cannot be created or destroyed it can only really be transformed into a different type of matter liquid can become solid or gas, gas can become liquid or plasma or solid, and solids can become liquid. Now the universe was created by a big bang this big bang was most probably another solar system imploding on itself and sending gas, plasma, and solids hurling through space the gas then reformed to create our sun, which then pulled all of the giant rocks towards it because of how massive it was the gravitational pull of the sun created the orbit of our planets, the rocks not having anywhere to go but still having their own gravity formed into cores of the planets which pulled more and more space rock into themselves to form the planets. Now each of these planets have different gas makeups for their atmospheres earths at
