I recently relocated to California for my job from Virginia but I'm originally from Georgia. My husband and I have been living in our car with our cat since May 2024. We don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. We do not have criminal records. He works full time and I work part time with a chronic illness. My mother died and without her support we lost our home and nearly all of our possessions. We are working and making just enough to live but not enough to get ahead. We are working class people who pay our bills and pay our taxes. Homelessness can happen to anyone. Not only do I make more money here but I came here to promote my legislation, The Right To Housing Act, that guarantees housing as a human right. I have also drafted petitions, proposals, and initiatives. I aim to solve the homelessness and housing insecurity epidemic for everyone because no one should fall into homelessness because of circumstances they cannot control.
