@justjmara: From one parent to another; especially with teens and pre teens. We don’t need to be perfect, but these kids need to be seen and heard for who they are and not passed down the same hurtful behaviors and habits that hurt us. Collectively, this country was led and built on an authoritarian way of leading that then became authoritarian teaching, that ultimately became authoritarian parenting. Instilling fear, shame, and control when we’re supposed to be guiding, understanding, and being the example only works on so many people and even then they’re only complying cause theyre afraid/unaware. There’s others that shit just don’t work on, they will fight back, holding up a mirror of your own reflection that our fragile and, in some, inflated egos don’t know how to handle correctly. As parents we will lose the bond with our children, or they will lose their autonomy, as teachers, we will lose their respect and willingness to engage with us, and as a country, they will lose our trust and patience before we lose our freedoms.
