There's no reason for smaller country with weaker economy like Cambodia invade Thailand territory. The idea of Cambodia invading Thailand is strategically illogical and baseless. Thailand has a far stronger military, and any attack would lead to swift and devastating consequences for Cambodia. Cambodia is focused on economic development, reducing poverty, and attracting investment. A war would destroy its tourism sector, invite sanctions, and reverse years of progress. As a member of ASEAN, Cambodia is committed to peaceful conflict resolution, not aggression. Border issues are addressed through negotiation and legal means. In short, war with Thailand brings no benefit—only disaster. Cambodia’s true national interest lies in peace, stability, and growth.

As a result of this heinous act, more than two schoolchildren were tragically killed, and a total of eight innocent civilians — including children — lost their lives. The world must know: 1. Since 1954, Thailand has repeatedly violated Cambodia’s national borders, acting as an aggressor and undermining our sovereignty. In that year, Thailand seized the sacred temple of Preah Vihear. In 1962, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Cambodia holds sovereignty over the temple and ordered Thailand to withdraw its forces. 2. However, tensions persisted. In 2008, when Preah Vihear was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, conflict flared again. Both sides drew weapons. In 2013, the ICJ reaffirmed Cambodia’s sovereignty over Preah Vihear and its surrounding area, a decision long respected by international law. 3. Yet, on July 24, 2025, Thailand once again crossed our border. Thai troops were deployed near the temples of Ta Moen Thom and Preah Vihear, launching an attack in defiance of international law. Cambodian forces stood resolute in defense, but our civilians suffered, and blood was shed on our soil. Cambodia does not seek conflict. We defend our territory, our peace, and our dignity.

Cambodia tried to resolve this through the ICJ ,based on past rulings that already confirmed its sovereignty over temple areas. Thailand refused, rejected the legal process, and instead moved troops and barbed wire into disputed land. That’s not “defense,” that’s provocation. On July 24, both sides claim the other shot first ,but when one side avoids court and escalates militarily, it’s clear who’s undermining peace. Cambodia acted in self-defense.
