@papamississippi: Mississippi has a good number of artesian wells, including one in the middle of the Mississippi Sound and one that produces reddish water. Here’s what an artesian well is, and where that strange color comes from #artesianwell #aquifers #drinkingwater #onthisday
I’ve heard there’s one in Purvis near the railroad track and the park. I need to check and see if it’s for real!

I dont recall having one in town (Lucedale) but I do know of 3 in George county! One is on River Rd between the Basin community and the Buzzard Roost community. The other two are in Buzzard Roost on WMA land (Pascagoula River).

I actually know this to be a well that is deeper than 800 feet. It still requires a pump. We had one on our property up until 2 years ago because the lead pipe broke after 70 years of use.

I met a geologist hired by state to kinda an audit. Or geologists survey on the aquifer. He said today’s rain takes 400 yrs to reach the aquifer. And it was decreasing supply due to demand. That was late 80’s.

I found an old one on my farm in lucedale. A neighbor said it was tapped first in the 1920’s to provide water to the farm, most of the old casing is rusted out but the water still flows and the kids love it.

You should come check out the one in Columbia. It used to feed the old ice house and now is used as a model of the Pearl River. I got a couple other places I wanna show you here.

So, if there is a little spring on my property, could I theoretically just drill a pipe into it to have the water off the ground? There is a nice artesian well that the community near Quitman uses.
