@tjarchitecture: 🇧🇬 Bulgaria- Communist Heritage Architecture: Most people know Bulgaria as a summer destination — sunny beaches, blooming rose valleys, and cheap beer. But in winter, a different Bulgaria emerges. The grey skies and silence pull back the curtain on the country’s communist past. . Featured Locations: 1. Buzludzha Monument 2. Stara Zagora 3. Yuri Gagarin Avenue with mosaics in Pernik . The reel begins in Sofia’s Lyulin neighborhood — endless rows of prefab panel buildings where everyday life continues between repeating concrete walls. From there, it cuts to aging Lenin monuments, some still upright, others half-buried in snow and time. Then comes the legendary Buzludzha Monument, shaped like a concrete UFO, stranded on a mountain top, empty and windswept — the ultimate symbol of Bulgaria’s faded socialist ambitions. Next is Stara Zagora, where broad avenues and rigid planning reflect the vision of a model socialist city. Above it rises the towering Samara Flag Monument, blending national pride with Soviet monumentality. In Kazanlak, the main hotel stands frozen in a past of state-planned tourism — symmetrical, massive, and slowly crumbling. In a forgotten corner of Vazrozhdenski, a large mosaic fades on the wall of a public building, its reds and blues washed out but still defiant. In Sofia, Mladost district mirrors Lyulin in its scale and repetition, but each block has its own marks of time and survival. In the center, The Largo complex and the Former Communist Party House dominate the skyline, a cold and grand symbol of power built to last. Finally, the reel closes in Pernik on Yuri Gagarin Avenue. There, mosaics line the path, celebrating labor, space exploration, and industrial pride. Gagarin himself visited Pernik — his name still attached to the avenue, his legacy quietly echoing in tile and stone. .
