I’m aware that it is the middle of summer and I am posting about a very fall-esque soup lol. However, where I live squash grow abundantly nearly all year around and this soup is a staple in my personal Fall and Winter as a woman… Aka my Luteal and Menstrual phases. I am just coming out of my bleed today which is what inspired this post! During these times our female bodies need warm, nourishing, easy to digest, comforting foods as we enter into a time of introspection, reflection, and solitude. During these phases of our female cycle (our fall and winter), our energy and hormone levels drop and we are actually meant to recoil from the outside world and slowwww way down. Do not let anybody tell you differently. Women do not operate the same as men do, we are cyclical, intuitive beings and that is such a blessing. A beautiful recognition in this and in living more in-tune with your natural cycle, is you begin to recognize and understand that different foods serve your body during different times of the month. For instance, squash is a great source of iron and during menstruation our iron levels drop as we bleed so supplementing with naturally iron-rich foods is a great way to maintain energy levels and support your body during this time. Not to mention the anti-inflammatory benefits of the turmeric and ginger to help with cramps… Carrots are also high in Vitamin C, a nutrient that plays a major role in how our bodies absorb iron. Hence, why I like to prep this soup ahead time to support my body during my menstrual cycle. Full recipe is up on my Substack now, linked in my bio. 😌
