The new Oak Bluffs Collection just released today at Polo Ralph Lauren and it's yet another fresh and innovative nod to that captures the essence of African American life and style with stories of class, family, heritage, joy and optimism. I have a few pieces in my cart already, being that I missed out on choice pieces from the original Morehouse Collection from 2023. I love how they aimed their focus on ths historical town and vacation hotbed for African-Americans since the 19th century. . Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, has a rich history as a haven for Black Americans, particularly the Black elite, artists, and intellectuals. It became a significant summer destination due to its welcoming atmosphere and relative freedom from the segregation and discrimination prevalent elsewhere in the country. Oak Bluffs evolved into a cultural hub for Black Americans, with prominent figures from the Harlem Renaissance and other fields visiting and finding inspiration there. The Inkwell: A specific beach in Oak Bluffs, known as "The Inkwell," became a central gathering place for Black visitors and residents, initially nicknamed with a derogatory term but later embraced with pride. Many of you may remember the movie from the 90's starring Larenz Tate as "Drew", where him and his family spend two weeks with his affluent cousins on Martha's Vineyard. It's one of my favorite movies from the 90's era....
