Eastpointe McDonald’s Murder Suspect Returns to Court Amid Mental Evaluation Request
Written by TrellEatz A tragic case that shocked the Eastpointe community is once again in the spotlight as the suspect accused of fatally stabbing her manager at McDonald’s returns to court. On July 10, 26-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad allegedly stabbed and killed 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, her supervisor at the McDonald’s on Gratiot Avenue near 10 Mile Road. According to authorities, the deadly attack happened following a heated dispute between the two women during their shift. Harris was later pronounced dead at the scene. Muhammad, who was arrested shortly after the incident, is facing serious charges including first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and habitual offender enhancements. She has remained in custody since her arrest with bond set at $25 million. On July 23, Muhammad appeared virtually in 38th District Court for a probable-cause hearing. During the proceeding, her defense attorney requested a mental competency evaluation to determine whether Muhammad is fit to stand trial. The judge granted the request, and a follow-up hearing has been scheduled for September 3. Due to the pending evaluation, the previously scheduled preliminary examination for July 30 has been removed from the court calendar. This case continues to raise questions about workplace safety, mental health, and the resources available to both employees and employers during internal conflicts. The Eastpointe community continues to mourn the loss of Harris, described by many as a kind and hardworking manager. As the legal process unfolds, all eyes remain on the court’s decision in September regarding Muhammad’s mental state and the future direction of the trial. Sources:
