ANYBODY can be racist to ANYBODY. im hapa, my skin is white so i dont look half hawaiian, i look full white. but to say hawaiians arent/are racist to whites/micronesian/etc is weird. bc it shouldnt even be based off of race. its based off a persons character. certain people are racist to whatever race. i take this kinda seriously bc i was bullied my whole childhood for being white. and i should “go back to the mainland”. when realistically half the ppl that would say that arent hawaiian, nor from here. but i get the history behind it, but i was not apart that, and these were kids in elementary school way back when so they didnt even know the history they js said it for say it. my point is that its not a race that is racist. its the persons character that is racist. bc if somebody chooses to be racist, doesnt declare their whole race to be racist.

Yeah it has to do with power also. People forget that. So I get how Hawaiians can be racist towards groups that we punch “sideways” for lack of better words. Another point I want to make though, this isn’t to be confused with all hate that Micronesians receive, my ohana have had 3 personal incidents with Micronesian individuals (mobbing, and 2 SA). While we judge people by their own actions and not by race, we are extra cautious with all Micronesians at first. All that to say, automatic HATE towards all Micronesians is unacceptable, and as do all of us, Micronesians need to also better their own community.

The definition of racism, if anyone and I mean anyone is acting the definition of racism to anyone are racists, there is no exception to the rule, no matter what color, creed, culture, religion you are, the act of racism is ironically indiscriminate to who can be a racist

I remember reading a stat about top most and least racist states in the US. Hawaii made top five for both most and least. Most for people who have experienced or have been called a racial slur, least because systemically we have more equality throughout all races vs any other state in the US

And the reality is, you can’t be racist towards somebody who is actually depressing you. You can be in a state of mind that is projecting bigotry. Yet you are not in the position of power the white person is.

💯 my full sister who is light skinned got hate all the time, they mistook her for a tourist. I on the other hand would get lectured by other Hawaiians bc I married a light skinned guy (whose half Native American)

I would say they can be racially prejudice. But racist. I get why people think they mean the same thing. And a lot of dictionaries don’t help since they give common use, descriptive, definitions and don’t usually break down root of suffix. What makes something an “ism” is very specific and you can’t be a preputator of said ism if you don’t meet the standards of the ism itself. I can break it down more if anyone wants it explained.

lol where is this idea that racism needs to be systemic coming from? we have a term for that: systemic racism. anyone can be racist to anyone. racism at its most basic is just race-based prejudice. seems like people are bending over backwards to justify/downplay racism against white people.

It’s wild how people forget that a lot of Micronesians were brought to Hawai‘i because of agreements the US made after using our islands for testing and military purposes. We didn’t just show up for no reason. Many of my ancestors were forced to leave our homes and now we’re treated like a burden. :/ It’s not fair especially because we’ve faced so much of the same history and harm from colonizers. We have such similar cultures and ways of life that it doesn’t make sense for there to be so much division.

Isn't that obvious? No offense, Hawaiians suffer racism but many of them are also racist towards Latinos, Asians, Blacks and other groups, racism is structured in society unfortunately, and even groups that suffer prejudice are often prejudiced against others too
