Marilu was incarcerated for a 2 year sentence at Dublin prison. During this sentence she was r*ped repeatedly and when she tried to report the assault or get word out to her family she was retaliated upon harshly by guards. They revoked her "good time" after her reports, as a punishment to keep her there longer. Marilu is a part of a compensation class action lawsuit for many women who had similar experiences in the Dublin prison also known as the "Notorious R*pe Club". The settlement agreement entailed that the prison would never reopen as a prison. Recently The Trump administration has announced the notorious Dublin prison will be reopening as an Ice Detention Center. Marilu had tears in her eyes as she said "there will be children there this time" and many workers who were in that culture will reapply. Undocumented and incarcerated people are in the most vulnerable position for abuse behind bars and walls that most will never hear about. Having firsthand insight into prisons myself I can tell you that's abuses are rampant and most of them you will never hear of because of intimidation and threats.
