I work with people who have substance use disorder. Nearly all of them experience relapse dreams at some point. I find a lot of them say they lessen with time. Hang in there.

I have those dreams too. 14 months sober here. mine always start in the middle of downing a drink and then I remember I'm sober and I spend the rest of the dream in full blown panic. I haven't made complete sense of the dreams yet but I choose to look at them as a reminder of how fragile sobriety can be, and that it needs to be tended to and cared for with intention or it can easily slip away.

I’m 70 days (!) Some drinking dreams but usually it’s a dream where I did something super chaotic that only non sober me would do and it’s very traumatic

My theory is that we suppress so many emotions when we drink so as our minds and bodies start to settle and adjust to no alcohol, these feelings that have been buried start to surface. So your mind is processing the feelings you had when drinking. The memories, the shame; the guilt. Check out the book; the body keeps the score, it’s fascinating!!

Guess what sweet boy, you didn’t drink❤️. Dreams don’t count. Look at it as a good thing. The dream scares you into never doing it again. I’m proud of you.

Super normal, but they happen less often after a while! I would say 6-9 months into sobriety is the worst. Pink Cloud fades, dreams are intense, and also PAWS! Something to be aware of and educated about.

there are many ways to approach treating those type of nightmares but what worked for me was going on a medication for nightmares temporarily when the dreams were very very frequent, disturbing, & heavily impacting my mental health. not necessarily a forever fix but it helped a lot in the first year of recovery for me when the dreams were stressing me tf out!
