I’ve taken care of offenders from DOC who have committed horrible crimes. While I’m taking care of them to I still provide the same quality and dignity of care my other pts get? Yup. If they pass because of their conditions do I maybe feel “no great loss,” maybe. Totally different thing. Why can’t people get that?

Nurses are capable of having opinions and feelings about society and treat each patient with 100 percent kindness, dignity, and professionalism. I've taken care of patients that I absolutely knew I would never want to be around but, guess what, they had no idea I felt that way. Our supervisors made rounds everyday and I was given positive reviews from patients that I was not happy I had to care for. No one ever knew my feelings because I was always a professional. Some people seem to think that nurses should be robotic with no opinions, no personal feelings. We should just walk around in society with perpetual smiles on our faces whether we are in uniform or not.

Ngl, I’m very glad I’m nowhere near DC so I don’t have to worry about ending up treating certain people there. I could do it, but it would make me throw up in my mouth a little 🤢 Saying they don’t deserve it isn’t the same as actually withholding care.
