100% I work as a teaching assistant in a middle school. I just barely make a living wage. What kills me is seeing the parents of my students fighting to survive. They have multiple jobs, because they can’t get full time! Getting hired full time means the employer has to pay benefits and “why would we do that” is the response when they are asked. It costs too much. I’ve seen employers do layoffs after 179 days as an example so they don’t become forced to hire the person (collective agreements in unionized spaces). Than you for calling this out!

I make less now than I made 20 years ago for the same job. 20 years ago I made $20 an hour. Jobs in the same field now offer $18 an hour and require 5 years experience. Ridiculous.

The Heritage Foundation doesn’t want that. They are infiltrating the school system, this year. The school board sent us a letter. Sucks. I can’t believe it.

The people that will blame the poor for not trying hard enough are also the ones that complained about service delays when companies refused to pay enough to keep enough staff during covid. They complain about immigrants stealing jobs but they refuse to hold corporate farms accountable for refusing to pay enough to attract american workers for back breaking work. All because capitalism has convinced them to ignore the strife of their neighbors and blame their coworkers... all for the belief that they might someday be a part of the 1%. They scream about the injustices of welfare for their community and the evils of socialist programs while supporting what amounts to corporate welfare for the rich. Its only a matter of time before late stage capitalism shows them they will never be part of the elite.

nearly every American household is just one hardship away from homelessness. this reality is lost on so many. I have seen so many 'do everything right' but still end up in that same position. all these comments do is victim blame. while I would never wish this situation on anyone, I do wish the people leaving it would gain some perspective.

I agree with you. If these people "got better paying jobs" who would be going their jobs and how would we enjoy those lugerys? And don't get me started on a teacher's pay because you guys are the one shaping our futures. while these entertainers who people worship are making this astronomical amount of money and we have seen some of their ideals of good choices.

I remember when I was a kid thinking a six figure income was a lot of money and if you made that you would be all set. Now that is a living wage for a family of four in many places in the US but median income is a third of that. I remember at one point I had one full time job my husband had 3 different jobs totaling around 70 hours a week just one child and we still qualified for food stamps

Why do people have to work more for the money they need to pay off other people but then when we can give money we choose to give it to the rich not the homeless or small businesses or global change something rich people will only do to look good it breaks my heart ❤️

I absolutely agree 💯!! I don’t have a degree but I have 5 years of college under my belt, my husband has a GED and we both make the same salary. It is still not a comfortable living wage and we still struggle. He will work overtime as much as it is offered and it helps but he is also 61 years old and can’t keep working like that. I still made sure my kids had what they needed and made sure the teachers had enough to share with the other children. It takes a village and we need to work together!!

Even better. The college library I work in has a staff of 16. Six of us are full time. Seven are capped at 19 hours, one at 29 hours, and two at 39 hours. That's right, 39 hours. One hour less than full time. At literally HALF the pay of the lowest paid full timer. Plus no paid time off or benefits. It's painfully common.

Exactly...we also need to blame the people in charge of the budgeting. Put the local taxes, federal and state money to correct use. Maybe add school supplies on the budget sheets

Minimum wage should adjust with inflation yearly- & the minimum should be what it takes to live above the poverty line.

I saw a video on here of someone doing the numbers if the minimum wage progressed like inflation we should be getting paid a around $66 an hour

some jobs take too much physical energy to consider a second job, people need to keep that in mind when telling others to work more

We need to go back to the pre Reagan tax cuts for the rich. If you make more than 3.5 million, up to 3.5 mil gets regular tax rate, the remainder of the money you make is tax at 86% or above. This is how the USA got regular people a true living wage and business was booming. Tax the rich! $66 a hour is the current need, on average, for people to make a living wage.

The people making decisions on minimum wage are very much out of touch with the cost of living. The people cry about things getting too expensive if we pay people more have fallen for the propaganda. because corporations can pay employees and still make a profit without gouging, but they won’t unless someone makes them.
