@zachydoo12: generic blanket statements about how many lands to run will never be correct. You have to take into account the context of how many turns you expect the game to last, your mana curve, and the kind of game plan you intend to execute. Simple sweeping suggestions of specific numbers are always going to be unhelpful in some cases. Fast CEDH decks might successfully run 22 lands. Slow battle cruiser casual decks may run 38. Lands-matter decks may need 40+. It's all relative. #mtg #magic #magicthegathering
30. no more, no less. no mulligans. we live by the 7, die by the 7.

I feel like if you have to ask it should probably just be 40

most of my decks have 35 lands
the rare ones that go higher are my landfalls decks

bulk of players run far too few lands then wonder why they lose

I oearned it's a 7:X ratio, depending on when the average turn it is you want your commander on

I have one deck with 36, one with 42, one with 28. It really really depends.

No. Just someone made a video saying you generally need 38 lands in a 2 color deck to mathematically get 3 lands (at at least 1 of each color) in your opening hand. The people seeing it as gospel either just started or were running like, 20.

I run 35 lands + artifact ramp + card draw. If i play green, ~25 lands + mana dorks + artifact ramp + draw. I think any more than that and your just drowning more than being in a comfortable position

I was just talking to a buddy about this. He said “mathematically 42 is the answer”. And the math he showed me ONLY cared that you always hit your land drop every turn without considering that by turn 9 I might not care about missing a land drop as I already have 15 mana available

Charlotte Jackson768 :
it is contextual, but mathematically for the average deck that peaks it curve at 2 or 3 with a high density of mana dorks should be 36

I usually start at 36 land when making a normal deck then adjust up or down from there depending on all the other factora. (dont do cEDH, but I think they usually sit in the 20s for lands mostly)

The more competitive the deck the lower the lands tbh my cEDH deck has 27 and my landfall deck has 45 so it really does depend, but I would say those are as high and as low as I will go tbh

I have a low mana deck that only need 3 lands and has a lot of card draw so it only runs 26 lands and honestly every time I run more I get flooded since it can't use more then 4 lands per turn.

trick question, it doesn't matter because I never draw them no matter how many there are

I ran elves with 13 mana in 60 card deck. had plenty of people tell me I needed more. Oops I was playing with 56 cards... never bothered to add the 4 lands i was missing. with so many options for elves helping mana ramp, didn't feel the need to do 20/40.
on the other hand, in arena, my landfall deck (not commander) is like 89 cards and almost half is lands. running out of lands is bad.

My lowest land count is 27 in my Urza Lord High Artificer deck, but that's because nearly everything in that deck taps for mana
