Sarah :
Yesterday, my teen girls and I were unfathomably front row to this medical emergency at Hersheypark. While respecting those involved and following the wishes made in Hershey's statement, I am compelled to add two points of clarification, that perhaps only a third party witness could contribute, that the official statement did not address, leading to countless unnecessary comments on social media. Foremost, "Where were the parents?" Right there. As I fervently prayed for all those involved, all the hands that were working feverishly to heal, and the souls being impacted by the medical emergency, I saw the eyes of a parent frantic and helpless to their child's circumstance. The parent was right there. Secondly, the response of the Lifeguards and support team at Hersheypark could not have been more expedient and diligent. Their training and dedication to their job from the Lifeguards, to the Security, to the Emergency Driver, every last staff member moved with precision and purpose and I continue to pray they find solace in knowing their training did not fail them, they did not fail, there was no fault in a tragic situation such as this one. Our hearts continue to go out to all involved as we continue to process everything ourselves. One thing from the comments I've read across social media is certain, far too many are ignorant to their own privilege of having never experienced a traumatic experience in which you are left helpless, even to your own child an arms length away in a barely crowded pool.
