Ocean Ecoventures is amazing whale watching leaving from cute Cowichan Bay, 1 hour south of Nanaimo. I’ve gone with them several times and they are small boats, super knowledgeable.

Definitely go to the very north end. Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Port Alice, Alert Bay, and of course my home town Sointula!
