I bought a box of 200 pencils when my class ran out, they were gone in under a month… first grade is the year we are strongly focusing on responsibility for your items. They are LEARNING this, not mastering it. So yea, send the 50 pencils in September.

187 days in the school year!! I go thru HUNDREDS of pencils (I have to buy more btw). kids don’t have pencils everydayyyy. they are being ridiculous 😭✋🏾

I teach 6th graders so they are a little older than elementary so parents really dont contribute at this point so I provide most of supplies and this school year we went through maybe 300 pencils and this is with me having a pencil routine bc 2 yrs ago we went through like 600. After Christmas almost half the student of each of my classes no longer bring pencils to work with everyday.

I mean yes kids do go through pencil like this i remember the boys specifically in my class never had pencils cause they would play pencil break, or loose it. Hell I kept up with my supplies still by September I would be down to like 5 pencils if I was lucky

A lot of people don’t grasp that the kids are using these items nearly all day every day lol. They’re working all day with either a pencil, marker, glue etc. my kid used 2 pencils a week last year! She was in kindergarten, and she’s a little heavy handed still but that made sense to me when all they’re doing is writing lol. Same with glue! About 1 a week. I’m glad I didn’t have to run down to her school every 2 days.

I mean maybe not 50 but I had a kid who had to get a new pencil every transition (maybe like 8 total in the day) I tried the pencil holder, his bag, the desk literally every trick and he just could not keep track of one

Also… if the teacher puts all the supplies in a “class bin” more than likely the teacher is going to ration the supplies out, which will make them last longer. As a teacher these kids literally lose everything, even outside of losing them they like to trade stuff… so to me it just makes more sense for the teacher to collect everything so that its controlled enough to be used properly

We used to play games that test whose pencil is stronger until one breaks ENOUGH we are so cooked if SCHOOL SUPPLIES is the financial hill we are going to 💀 on. The my, my, my makes me want a Tax Refund as a childless person.

I work with kindergarteners. The supplies they bring in the beginning of the year is usually gone by December even when I teach kids proper use. Things happen they are kids. I can’t believe this conversation is a thing 😩

Before I took my kid out her last school I bought like $60 of extra supplies and over $200 for bulk Lysol wipes & spray, baby wipes, tissue snacks, water, & juiceboxes for the whole class…. Pulled her out 2 months later and I was still glad to be able to provide for kids who might not have 🤷🏾♀️(I’m broke too but I prioritize what I care about)

I’m a substitute teacher. There are kids who chew them to hell, sharpen them down to a nib, break them on purpose, take them home and leave them, drop them and the cleaning crew clean them up, take them to specials (art, STEM) and leave them or drop them along the way, etc. etc. etc. so yes in addition to normal use over 180 days, they use a lot of extras.

Like have they been in a classroom before? Those kids are constantly losing, breaking and sharpening those pencils to oblivion AND they never put the caps on those gluesticks, they always dried out, same with markers

teachers aren’t even asking for brand name everything 😭 i’m pretty sure next time they order something from the tiktok shop or amazon they can get a large quantity of generic pencils and loose leaf paper
