@balancedcanineacademy: I received a call from Bowie’s owners and they were desperate for help. Bowie has bitten them and they were afraid to bring him around anyone new. He hadn’t even been to the vet in years because his aggression was so bad. I need dogs up to date on vaccines to go through my programs, so I agreed to go with them to the vet the very first day we met, so we could get him updated to start training. We went to Northeast Aninal Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL for an appointment with Ginger Bentham, DVM and had the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a vet clinic. The veterinarian there not only tried to convince them to fire me because I’m a balanced trainer, but recommend they consider euthanizing their dog. Below is exactly what this veterinarian told my clients. I’m posting this to not only share my awful experience with this specific veterinarian to avoid those struggling with their dog’s behavior going through what we did, but to not take what a veterinarian, who has very minimal experience in behavior, too seriously when they try to make behavior recommendations. I used to bring my dogs to this clinic, however after this experience I immediately got my records printed and went elsewhere. Here’s what Dr. Ginger Bentham had to say: “Not every trainer is the best fit in every situation, and I worry that this may not be the best fit. It is my job to speak for Bowie, as his advocate. Also discussed that not all behavior issues can have the outcome that we would like and if you find that despite everything you are trying to do that Bowie is not a safe dog to be around, it is not wrong to consider human safety and humane euthanasia.” Mind you, none of us asked Dr. Ginger Bentham for her opinion on training and she pushed it on my clients who were clearly very uncomfortable and did not want her advice. Their jaws literally dropped when she recommended euthanizing their dog. I’m posting this video as proof, that balanced training not only saves dogs that the force free community would kill, but also that it can be done with a dog ending up happier and more comfortable than they’ve ever been around their triggers. Bowie is proof in the success of my training and don’t let anyone tell you that aggressive dogs should never be corrected or told no, just because their textbooks in their veterinary degree program told them so. #dogs #dogsoftiktok #stpete #stpetersburgflorida #tampa #tampabay #florida #DogTraining #dogtrainer #dogtrainingtips #cattledog #rehab #fyp #fypシ #veterinarian #veterinarymedicine #euthanasia

“I don’t know why I bite…” every dog should have a chance to be loved and cared for and to be shown it’s not truly a horrible world

How do you feel about owners buying a blue heeler (thanks to Bluey) but don’t have the energy / time / capacity nor home to support a HEELER cattle dog? This poor baby seems like it went through it 🥺

People advocate for behavioral euthanasia thinking it makes them good when really that’s almost NEVER truly the best or final option.

do dogs become aggressive only because of the owner or who had them previously ? or is there other factors?

This is so bizarre to read. There is no dog and no owner in their right mind that would not prefer every opportunity to succeed, even if that opportunity was challenging, at times scary and super upsetting. Euthanasia should always be a last resort, not a way to avoid discomfort.

I mean I’m glad he’s doing better and you seem like an awesome trainer, but you said it yourself in the caption about what the vet said. “Despite trying everything you can, if this doesn’t work out. It’s not wrong to consider humane euthanasia.” That is fair, she wasn’t saying the owners had to do it or forcing it on them it seemed, but saying it was an option if things didn’t get better.

man yall clearly have no shame for the people who did stuff to this dog or any other dog. Only reason dogs become like this is because the humans treat them like shit and it’s their job to have the dog reopen their trust on seeing the world isn’t bad like where that dog was at some point. It’s about gaining trust and showing that animal that there’s more than just being defensive

this isn’t the dogs problem, it’s a human problem. Dogs are NOT born aggressive, it comes from bad experiences and lack of training.
