Originally, this model was jointly announced by DoCoMo and Mitsubishi, with a prototype showcased at CEATEC JAPAN in 2005. It featured an unconventional clamshell design with dual screens. The “DS” in the model name likely stands for “Dual Screen.” The upper screen functions as a regular display, while the lower one is a touchscreen used for menu navigation. The UI on the lower screen dynamically changes based on usage context. From personal experience, using it wasn't very convenient or intuitive. Navigating menus required tapping on virtual buttons instead of using actual physical ones, and touchscreen accuracy in 2007 still left much to be desired. Although Mitsubishi did include a stylus to help with the bottom screen, it was just a separate accessory, the device itself had no built-in slot to store it. Still, in terms of collectibility and legendary rarity, it scores a perfect 10. Statistically speaking, the D800iDS marks the final clamshell phone from Mitsubishi. In 2008, the company withdrew from the mobile phone business altogether.
