✨️Into the reclaim bucket you go✨️ This clay just wasn't my vibe - I was looking for something groggy that could withstand some pit fire and raku experimenting, but the grogginess extraordinaire turned the sculpting into a battle, and resulted in some sculptures that felt more like a technical exercise than free and expressive. But that doesn't mean my time - or my clay - was wasted. The clay with grog is going to be added to the reclaim bucket, together with the smooth white clay I've fallen in love with. Once I have added enough of the smooth clay to the bucket (50% of its contents or more) I have a feeling that I'll have a perfect mix of grog and smooth to make some ceramic sculptures that are friendly towards alternative firing techniques. And all the things l learned through the modeling I did while getting to know this clay will make its way into my coming projects, in spirit. And I think this is how life often is, too. You bring some of that old roughness and grit into your next phase - but you add some smoothness, you re-work it, until it is pliable again. And then you create something new with a little bit of the old. Imo, you never have to stay attached to energy that doesn't serve you anymore - no matter how much time/emotional/financial investment you put into it. It doesn't mean that that time was wasted, just... that you're going through life. And that's arguably the most valuable, even if it looks like taking a step back in that moment. It's going to take a little bit longer to get going with my outdoor firing project now since these were supposed to be my test projects. And maybe I've missed out a little in terms of gaining some short term technical knowledge - but I'd rather go for long term joy😊 (and I like to feel like it's my heart that 🔥 in that camp fire, and see what it reveals when it's all said and done😉) #rebuilding #ceramicreclaim #artdestruction
