If you're a man a dating app it's pretty much set for failure. It's an illusion. It's been statistically proven that 5% of the male applicants receive 8090% of the attention. What the dating have done is that just like distribution of media where a newspaper might be local regional you're going to influence a smaller sample, but when you digitalize it and remove the geographic limitations, the information is given to a larger sample set. So if you take dating apps, as opposed to a social network of 5 to 40 people, you're now taking a sample set of 1000. But the problem is in a smaller group if you were the top or let's say a big fish little pond, he'll do well in that social group but when you move into the big pond now you're playing with the big fish. Statistically this all is in line. So let your sample set to peers or reflect your values so socially physically, etc.. so your expectations to reflect what the value system is of the opposite sex, not yours. This might be a problem, today's youth, especially Asia, where physical groups of friends are very small and social frequent interaction to media is very large so it kind of puts you at a disadvantage. as a man I would say don't focus on social focus on your career. Focus on your hobbies focus on your passions and that will define your social groups and you won't feel so lonely.

NicoZen :
Genuine question: Are the dating apps a replacement for life encounters? I feel it's a lazy attitude for a man to rely on this tools..
