you’re not wrong…but I also get why he’s upset even though those are the two most odd times to leave behind. Haha definitely the downside of camping in colorado sometimes.

He should’ve used it as an opportunity to make a new friend and camp w ya at the same site.

You are right. Only matters if it is a paid/reservation site. Otherwise, no camp, no spot

I say if you have to guess if it’s junk left behind it doesn’t count to claim. If i only had a chair, id add a note taped to the chair with the date.

No tent, no camper, no sign of a campsite.a single abandoned chair and water jug. I would’ve thought the same thing 🤷🏻♀️I would’ve thought someone left some stuff behind.

First come first serve sights need to be occupied at night. Leaving property like that is considered abandoned property.

Yea ppl do this in Idaho. I wouldn't have taken it or if I did I ld be ready for someone to come back and claim it. It sucks but it's common

This is an interesting one. I only moved to Colorado 3 years ago but have always assumed stuff left meant I can’t camp there. And i have left chairs and tents to go fishing or hiking. If it wasn’t the last spot, would you have kept looking? Sounds like the situation may have made you a little more okay with “taking” a spot. Idk.

Huh. Lots of “cowboy” campers in CO, not sure how they would have a tent to hold their space. We’ve also had an issue with people stealing tents while you’re out hiking or whatever, and ppl have advised to not leave those items behind if they don’t want them to be stolen. Not quite that simple unfortunately.

Tough situation lol do I think he should be entitled to the spot? Nah..he left. But I probably would have gone somewhere else if he said he’d been there 3 days.

lol um no….😂 If you do not leave a tent then it’s not yours to claim. Especially not in peak season….tell him Welcome to Colorado. 🤷🏽♀️😂

at least a tent, chair and cooler, an old chair and jug of water is more likely to be looked at as trash the previous camper left

He should left a note. I would have assumed it was left by accident by the former camper

Why not invite them to share the spot. You said it yourself it’s July in Colorado and it’s SWARMING with campers. Wouldn’t that be the right thing to do?
