@klaudiavotes: Opt-in default still let you opt out; it just makes it easier thus more likely to save and help people. And republicans are huge hypocrites for not pushing for this actual pro-life policy #organdonor #prolife #transplantlist
It's wrong to call people selfish for not wanting to be an organ donor. There are a lot of reasons why someone decides not to be one. Personally, its against my religion, so even though I'd like to, my beliefs say I can't. People deserve to decide what happens to their bodies after death without being labeled as selfish.

Not wanting to be a organ donor isn’t selfish. There are so many cons to being one. I personally don’t want to be one because I just don’t really want my body cut open while I’m dead.

As much as I understand the perspective, that goes against having the right to choose. Having the right to choose isn’t just for having a baby or not. It’s for everything.

so you, by default, want the government to be able to harvest parts of someone's body? that sets a president that our bodies are part of the government to use. im an organ donor, but like, this is still a wild take

Me personally as a black woman there’s already a high risk of me being harmed more in a hospital. I don’t wanna add on an extra benefit of me dying.

Bodily autonomy should never be taken away by a government. Nevermind the fact that in america, they take the organs for free and then go around and bankrupt the donors family and the recipient

No. This is something that should be opt in. Not the default. This is a big choice that someone is making. And it should be a conscious one.

maybe if the state hadnt used it as justification to keep a corpse on life support for a fetus... lots of people are gonna deem being on the registry unsafe because of that

If it was really the same then it wouldn't matter if there was an opt in or opt out system

okay but I'd worry they'd do less to save my life so they could have my organs to use on other people

I’m one of those patients they would let pass for organ harvesting. I’m good. 😬

I don't understand not wanting to be an organ doner. If I'm dead, I don't need my organs anymore, it's not that big of a deal.

It’s not their responsibility to save lives, it is their body their choice. Not all doctors will save you if you are a donor there are dozens of stories in regard to organ harvesting. Some doctors will ask you when you’re dying if you would like to donate.

While i definitely see your point in this, especially with the option to opt-out, this is still a terrible idea. I would never trust the government with ethical control over body autonomy, regardless of if it is required or not.

If you want that, you can go to UK and you can live there. It’s a literal choice that people make that’s why we we’re Americans because we have choice first and foremost. If you don’t like choice, you can literally go back to the UK.

if this was default it will be miss used long term have miss communication breach on religious beliefs. if someone wanted to donate they would opt in themselves like it is now, not right to force the idea to have people that are not understanding the new basics. also steals autonomy rights to unidentified people that you don't know if they opt in or not so by default you take parts of their body you shouldn't just assume oh yeah we can take parts of them

excuse me while I crash out :
People already have trouble remembering to cancel free trials. Unfortunately, while well meaning, the current system of purposely signing up with the default being “no” is the best course. Bodily autonomy is bodily autonomy whether alive or not.

Opt out organ donation often end up taking advantage of vulnerable groups of people and increases the likelihood of the plug being pulled to early.not to mention how scummy a lot of the donation companies are.

like i really dont get why people dont!! you will die and your organs will have no point anymore besides to sit there and rot away, when someone in need of organs is dying. like theres no point in not being a donor
