My biggest takeaway when I read it years ago was how none of the things we care about actually matter and at the end of our lives we think about who we’ve loved, whom we’ve hurt, who has loved us and how despite all the desperation with which she clinged on to her life as a famous actress, none of that mattered to her at the end. And I’ve read so many other books without those same themes but it’s always the first book that pops into my head when I think about that specific thing.

Read Malibu Rising next and then Carrie Sotto. In that order. Both are in the same universe sort of. Malibu Rising is about Mick Riva’s family and Carrie Sotto is a character that appears in that book. Both great!

My favorite book of TJR is After I Do. I much prefer her earlier books. As a POC reader, Everlyn Hugo was a big disappointment. The characters depths and their stories were written at a very surface level. Like for shock values, but no backbone or meat behind it. At every chance, stereotypes were encouraged throughout each chapter. The lack of care for topics such as race, LGBTQ, black identity were so disrespectful! I understand why the book was a hit because the writing styles were for people who don't usually read books. But for me personally as an avid reader, this book was a BIG NO.

I’m currently reading atmosphere as my first TJR book. I’m fully visualizing it like a movie in my head. So far I love her writing and I feel like I’m picking the 7 husbands pretty soon. Now I get the hype from her as an author. I have to admit I was influenced by your review of atmosphere and you were spot on. Now I feel like I have to read more of her work too.👏
