It’s funny you bring up the Viking thing cuz that’s literally what happened for so many people. They watched Vikings loved it then looked for stuff similar. It’s how the last kingdom and the Norsemen gained a lot of their viewers and fans. All this to say it’s typically a good thing to be compared to something that people love.

Gaming playthroughs are a pretty different thing from the reactions DarkViper talks about. The goal of a dev is to get game sales, so attention from lets plays basically only help. Whereas reaction videos are a perfect market substitute for the videos they watch, essentially keeping the attention for themselves instead of the creator.
