That’s because knowing of him, and knowing him are two different things. It’s only once you have an encounter with the spirit of God that you fully understand. You can’t understand unless he makes himself known to you.

I always felt the opposite. I wish that I wasn’t raised Christian so that I could find it as an adult and decide on my own/with a clean slate. I feel like it was pushed on me so heavily and not always in the best way. That’s actually pushed me away more and made me more confused.

we are exactly the same. I wish my parents taught me like im teaching my kids. I haven't done movies yet but im reading my Bible daily and doing studies and teaching my kids more about our religion and how we should live outside of societal views and criticism and im so much happier.

i grew up in a very Christian environment. from my experience, children don’t have the emotional intelligence to understand the gravity of someone dying for them. when you hear about the gospel over and over again from a young age, there can be an element of desensitization. it becomes something that’s more of an ordinary fact of life rather than something spiritually transformative

What I see, as a pastor, is 1 of 2 things. 1)people get turned off by a person of a small group of people that are in the church that hurt them in some way. Thry are mad at a person, not God, but equate it to God. or 2) hear the word but don’t want to change how they are living. The Bible calls you to change and a lot of people don’t want to, so they never find out how much better life is on the other side.

I remember in middle/high school learning about evolution in a way that it was the fact and Creation was a theory. That put a lot of doubt in my head and I considered myself agnostic until a couple of years ago.. when I finally asked myself deep questions and looked for answers. They all led me to Jesus

Yes, many of my friends were raised in it and now do not believe. People have different life experiences which cause them to see the world differently.

When my daughter was serving her mission in New England for 18 months, she taught this woman about the birth of the Savior, and this one had never heard of it, and was so odd by how all of the nativity figurines that she had seen over the years it all came together for her. I thought that was so interesting that she had never ever heard of it

I was raised evangelical (also went to a private Christian school) and was so burnt out by the time I was an adult because everything was so performative. Speaking in tongues, concert worship, dramatic altar calls….it was all so shallow and irreverent, and if you didn’t behave in this manner or accept it as normal you were seen as a bad Christian or not having a relationship with God. I joined the Orthodox Church in college because I wanted to have a relationship with Christ and worship Him as He desired to be worshiped, be part of a real community who cared about each other and not about how outwardly good they appeared, and be connected to the historic Church. I 10000% understand why so many of my peers have deconstructed and consider themselves exvangelical or whatever. Thank God I had an Orthodox friend who saved me from that fate.
