I wouldn't say its more reliable a 1 barrel carb is as simple as it can possibly get unless its completely clogged up they'll run. 1 little pissy glitch and you'll be on the side of the road. I had a 83 with the 4.9 and the duraspark system that thing never even had a hiccup in 10 years of abuse and got 20 mpg normally about a 50/50combo city highway

Throttle body EFI doesn’t affect mpg over a properly tuned carb…..all it does is start easily

My 69 has the 8.9:1 compression ratio head an no smog. 30 years ago I'd get 22-25mpg and under ideal conditions it would get close to 30mpg. I kept a log but the mice ate it. These days I get 16-18mpg.
