Even if we grew up in the struggle some of us did not stay there and we left that mentality behind.

I will say it as one of the black people who didn't exactly grow up in the gated community, but definitely had like a very nice, like affluent, suburban life, when somebody said we were stealing, I was like, what?! we who is we?!

They are not trying to reach his demographic and he don’t understand that. They are trying to reach upper middle class and upper class black people and having a collaboration with oak bluffs is doing that.

thank you! this is my black experience. lived in suburbia/gated communities, great schools, raised by a married couple of 29 years, got into Duke, Vaderbuilt & all my siblings are college educated. our experience deserves to be represented as well, not just “the struggle.”

I think the whole “we stole that” was in reference to how polo became popular among black people as a symbol of wealth. It was stolen by black boys in Brooklyn who then made it popular which also boosted polos notoriety. Which ultimately did more for polos brand. Y’all should look up the Lo life’s. Not saying as in anyways incorrect because all points are valid in this conversation, more just saying it for education and black American history

Many of them funded the movements that that gave us the rights that we have. We would do well not to disregard them.

there's something interesting happening in these comments abd it's slightly rubbing me the wrong way because I see it every time there's a hood vs suburbian battle in our community. and there's just a disgusting amount of generalizations from each side. like it happens every time and it leaves me feeling sick because why is this always a battle we have to have.
