I did my first ever manuscript swap with another author after receiving incredibly helpful beta feedback. Their feedback helped shape MY feedback. Learning how to give actionable advice without just saying “I don’t like this” has been so valuable, and I hope helpful for the other author!

I didn't get good until, I would say book 8/9 you learn by reading your own stuff and thinking it's trash and you fumble to find the right way to move someone across the room and sometimes you don't need to move them and you figureitout.

I dunno if I have faith in writing groups. Seen so much bad advice online from people claiming to have some sort of authority (not this page obvs!). I’ve seen brilliant writing butchered and changed with stock advice and headlines from courses that people regurgitate without the context or nuance. When writers groups are full of people just like me, looking to swap work, what’s to say their way is better than mine? I might offer some real lame advice to them, and they might me. But once the seed of doubt is sowed it could set in deep. I’m only just stating on my journey so maybe I’ll change my mind further in 🤷🏻♂️
