I lie, lie and lie. I don’t say my real name or my real occupation. I don’t go out my way to start conversations. But cause one solo travel I met another black woman by the pool and shared I was on the resort solo. Later on that day I was talking to other people and she shouted my name across the pool and wanted to introduce me to someone. I said “I’ll be there in a few” because I was talking to someone. She says to the people she’s with “she doesn’t know them, she’s here alone.” That was the most disgusting thing a person can do especially abroad. Never again! I’m usually very strict but I was trying to be open and welcoming. I didn’t expect that but now I’ll continue to be myself everywhere I go.

I am with you that’s the first thing I thought about as well my personality. I’m a very outgoing person and I share everything because I think that it’s great when you learn from each other by sharing, I think that would be my big biggest vulnerability.

I’ve lived by myself and abroad for over a decade now and I figure myself to be very personable, friendly, kind etc. but if you’re not discerning these are traits that people can take advantage of because they’re rare to come by. So be you, of course, but exercise caution and boundaries. ✨
