I’m Chinese, and when I was in HS - it was only Black kids and us who rocked Polo heavy with that prep look. Granted I’m old so it was back in the early 90’s - but I think this collab is dope. It should remind ppl that this is what ALD wished they could do

I honestly love anything that Jeter is involved in. I'm not Black so what I say doesn't matter in this space, but he is an amazing Creative Director; Morehouse, Spelman, and now Oak Bluff. Being the 1st Black Creative Director at RL is a huge deal and I am so excited to see what he does in the future. This is why there NEEDS to be diversity in luxury fashion, white people dont know the history because their families didn't live it. I don't wear the collection, because it wasn't made for me, but I can admire it as art.

This! The conversation is exhausting. It’s like when a Black person doesn’t fit the expected ‘narrative,’ people get upset instead of recognizing the achievement. He launched a collection that showcases Black excellence in a refined, classy way and he didn’t drop it on Juneteenth, which shows it wasn’t some performative handout. That deserves to be acknowledged.

i think the story could have been told from a different mouth or through a different medium….its a beautiful story but it kind of gets muddled when you take into account the history of RL. Regardless i love the collection and what it highlights

I'm sitting over here crying bc all of my life I've felt connected to Ralph Lauren, I've asked people around me to go to Polo matches with me, experience Nascar and go to Martha's Vineyard, they'd call me bourgeois or say "that's a white person's sport/hobby." Honestly, this goes to show everyone that our history is not being taught that our history is not being represented well enough for people to have any type of ounce of respect and understanding we were not allowed to go to beaches. We were not allowed to go to certain parks it’s just so devastating that our history is not being respected and it’s lost because of ignorance

It's hard to be successful as a black American at times, because you get seen as whitewashed. I've been called it for most my life by people in my generation. But they fail to see that there's still a struggle I went through, and I still deal with diversity. You just can't let it hold you back. Oak Bluff and this collection says we don't just stand down, and I love it.

This thing he’s not saying oak bluff doesn’t matter he saying that Polo’s use of oak bluff feels like they don’t care about the history of blk ppl and polo only to put our faces and names onto something that was majorly white before us and we’re suppose to buy without talking about our history with them

and to add why do we have to glorify struggle like that's our only identity. we push a stereotypical narrative culturally. getting out the hood was the goal. the dream was about taking back everything they took from us. and What makes us black excellence.

If you came up in poverty we was giving examples like the Cosby show and Fresh Prince to show us Black Excellence exists and we all don't come from poverty. If these people exists where the hell do you think they would vacation. Hell Carlton dressed like this every episode.
