@mtn.alice: Permission to still love a place that took my friend without feeling guilty. Permission to be happy even though my friend is gone without feeling guilty. This video is short but captures the feelings that I've been grappling with this summer. Grief is such a complex experience.

My boyfriend was killed in an avalanche, we spread his ashes in the mountains where he was taken from us. I had never been there before but fell madly in love with the mountains, I understood why he loved it so much, but it was so heartbreaking to be in the same spot where he left the world. Grief is so complex.. proud of you for being out there anyway! The love and loss are always intertwined!!

I am terribly sorry that you lost a loved one... It is beyond clear how much he is loved. I also appreciate seeing someone else deal with grief like this because I too feel like this and it's so so fucking hard... Thank you for sharing this moment with us. 💙

I recognized that cry instantly, it felt so familiar. Grief has to be the most intense/complex human experience ever, right? I resonate so strongly with the place/person/sadness confluence.

the best place is out there and talk about it.... you're not doing your soul any favors by exploring a different trail. you both clearly loved that area...take your time and go thru it so you can bring him with you without crying. I think of. my dad in these moments

Feel all the emotions you need 🥹 In such a beautiful place it can be so healing. I live nearby and enjoyed many visits with my dad, he’s gone now but when I visit it feel him, it’s both sad and peaceful as well. 🫶

My brother drowned in a local lake and I still can't swim/paddleboard or even drive by the spot he was lost. I know he would want me to be able to swim in a lake again. it's been three years

He definitely is there with you in spirit. He will be the breeze you want when there hasn’t been one for hours, he will push that cloud over you when you need some shade. We may lose them in physical form but they are keeping us safe. Sorry for you loss. I recall seeing it on mountain project last year.

I cried on wheeler peak because I saw a dog in a hiking pack. She reminded me of my Doberman we had to put down

My grandfather died saving me from the rip current on the Jersey shore. I still love that beach, and I still go in his memory 🩷

He would love that you are there 💜 I am sure it is such a complex feeling, you want to be somewhere that makes you feel close to him, while simultaneously feeling the absence of him. Let yourself continue to be in love with that place no matter how long it may take 💜 Baby steps. Sending an abundance of love.

This gave me chills… Grant used to give all the ladies flowers in the EDR when he worked grounds in St Mary. I still have one of the flowers pressed in my trail journal. 🥺❤️‍🩹 thank you for posting this and letting his memory live on. ❤️

Nature lovers know that the love of the outdoors exists in the beauty and the danger. What a beautiful tragedy that he was taken in such a place. And what an inconsolable honor it is to have a place so breathtaking and so heartbreaking.

I was born and raised in the Eastern Sierras. my dad had a friend that didn't make it through the pass coming back from The Bay. he went looking, found him, notified authorities, and identified the body. I've had a hard time going home since. grief is an unending experience.

I don’t know your story or your friends story, but I love that you want to a place where the two of you were happy to find your peace and that you’re not angry at the beauty that surround you

@Madeline Pisano: Grant was such a magical person and I’m truly grateful that he was in our lives for however short of a time it was. I’ve never known someone who would just “appear” in the most random places like Grant would 🖤
